Kate Thompson
Prize winning British author of both children's and adult fiction. Born in Halifax in 1956. As a child she loved horses and as an adult she worked for several years with race horses. After feeling a change of career was needed, Ms. Thompson studied law for a while, travelled to India, where she became involved in voluntary work and then moved to Ireland where she ran a small-holding and where she still lives. As well as being interested in horses from an early age, she also had a love of writing. In the late eighties she began to write seriously, having a volume of her poems published and later a number of novels, many of which were prize winning.
The author's children's novels are mainly of the fantasy genre, and often feature animals. She has written two horse-themed novels, one is a historical story set in Ancient Rome, the other a more traditional book set in Scotland.
Kate Thompson has her own website, where you can find out lots more about her life and books.
